Minors


Minor in Spanish

The Spanish Minor is a program of humanistic study of the Spanish-speaking world that requires a minimum of 20 credits in Spanish at the 212 level and above. Most students take SPAN 212 (as one of three major electives) before moving on to Spanish Foundational Courses (SPAN 300-318, at least two required) and, later, more focused 400-level courses (at least one required). Spanish minors are strongly encouraged to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country.

To declare a Spanish minor, please go to the OUE website and fill out the online Declaration of Major/Minor form. Students meet with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, currently Prof. Jennifer Feldman, to finalize their declaration and for advising each semester.

Minor in Lusophone Studies (Portuguese)

The Minor in Lusophone Studies is a program of humanistic study of the Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) world that requires a minimum of 20 credits. Most students take PORT 110: Intensive Portuguese for Spanish Speakers, before moving on to PORT 201 and other courses in the program. Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad in a Portuguese-speaking country.

To declare a minor, please go to the OUE website and fill out the online Declaration of Major/Minor form. Minors in Lusophone Studies meet with the Director of the Portuguese Program, currently Prof. Ana Catarina Teixeira, to finalize their declaration and for advising each semester.
