Welcome/Bienvenidos/Bem-vindos to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research, expanding the notion of primary evidence for our field beyond canonical notions defined by geography and nation-state to instead embrace the global and interconnected life of the Iberian peninsula and its diasporic reach across time and place and in partnership with other departments, programs, and schools at Emory. In our research and teaching we study a diverse set of texts and discourses across genres and media—literature, film, essays, political discourse, journalism, new social media, popular print and online culture. We prepare students – in Spanish and Portuguese -- for a broad and cross-cutting application of critical skills to global issues related to Ibero-American culture and discourse.
